Mission Statement

“Diversity” refers to differences among us humans. Gender, social background, age, (dis)ability, ethnicity, nationality, religion, language, sexual orientation, worldview and care responsibilities are understood as central dimensions of diversity. Hence, diversity is initially only a description of the status quo. Diversity policy or diversity management approaches plurality with the normative goal to provide equal opportunities. It is an institutionally established procedure that creates ideal learning, research and work environments for all members of university, regardless of the dimensions of differentiation, and takes a stance against discrimination. Antidiscrimination and equality are instruments that serve to ensure equal opportunities and overcome privileges and barriers potentially resulting from diversity.

The University of Graz sees itself as a diversity-sensitive educational and research institution that acts according to the principles of equality, equal opportunities and anti-discrimination and takes measures to eliminate barriers for disadvantaged groups. As an AntiBias organisation, we provide an environment shaped with the aim of equal opportunities where the diversity of our students and staff is valued as a key principle of our co-operation. A diversity of experiences, abilities and potentials is recognised and promoted.
